  6. ‘Khagendramanidarpana’ is unique among the knowledge based texts in Kannada because it happens to be the solitary work on toxicology (Vishavaidya) in ancient Kannada. Khagendra is an obvious reference to ‘Garuda’ who is an enemy of snakes. One particular palm leaf manuscript of this work is composed in miniature style and deserves to be exhibited for that reason alone. This work contains sixteen chapters and 8000 Granthas. This is in Champu form and contains kandapadyas and vruttas. Mangarasa acknowledges his indebtedness to previous scholars such as Pujyapada. He has drawn material from Jaina religious texts also. He follows ‘Kashyapa Samhita’ closely and the work edited by Mariyappa Bhat and Sheshayyanagar has given the original Sanskrit shlokas also. Mangarasa avers that it is better to write a work like which is useful to the general public rather than writing about nature, night, love, liquor, prostitution etc in the name of literature. Having said that, one must concede that he has succeeded in lending a literary flavour to this scholarly work.

He mentions ten types of poisons such as snakes, scorpions, alcohol, insects, spoilt corn etc and professes to provide anti venom drugs to all of them. His work deserves to be translated in to modern Kannada and studied for its veracity. It is not merely confined to toxicology but provides many a diagnostic tool and remedial practice for other problems also.
